Accessing Built-in Training in OpenClinica EDC
Overview
OpenClinica EDC includes training built directly into the platform. There are two training types: role-based training courses that may be required before you can access your study data, and self-service resources you can use at any time. Both are designed to help your team get up to speed quickly and work with confidence.
Understanding training types
Required training consists of courses that are assigned based on your role in the study. If your role requires training, you are automatically redirected to the Training screen when you log in to your study. You must complete your required training before you can access your study. Once complete, you land on the study home screen automatically.
Note: Training enforcement applies to the Production environment only, where your real study data is captured. The Test environment, used for practicing workflows, does not require training to be completed first.
Optional training includes self-service resources available at any time through the Resource Center, as well as on-screen guidance and hints that appear as you design your study. These resources are not tracked and do not need to be completed in any order. They are useful for onboarding, quick reference, and exploring features at your own pace.
Completing required training
- Log in to OpenClinica EDC. If your role requires training, you are redirected to the training welcome screen.
- Click Launch Training to open the welcome screen for your assigned course.
- Click Start Training to continue.
- Scroll down the course screens as needed to view all the content.
- Click Next to advance through the course content. You can click Back to return to the previous screen.
- Click Take the Quiz when you reach the Final Quiz screen.
- Answer each quiz question and click Next to continue through the quiz. Your score displays at the end. You need a score of 80% or higher to pass. Click Retake the Quiz if you did not pass.
- Click Close once you have completed the quiz with a passing score.
- Click Mark as Complete on the Congratulations screen. Your study home screen opens automatically.
💡 Tip: You can complete training in the Test environment by accessing it from the Resource Center. Your completion status carries over automatically to Production when your study goes live.

Accessing optional self-service resources
- Click the orange Resources beacon on the right side of any screen to open the Resource Center panel. Here you can access on-demand training and release announcements, and search documentation without leaving the system. Depending on the screen you are working in when you click Resources, you may also see optional training content that guides study builders through setting up a study.
- Hover over elements in the Study Designer and Form Designer areas of the system to display on-screen tips and guidance as you build your study.
